EarlyOrthodonticTreatmentinLongBeach
Bloom Orthodontics & Bloom Smile Studio provides early orthodontic treatment, also called Phase 1, for Long Beach children at our Norse Way office. Board-certified orthodontists Dr. Thao Nguyen Vu and Dr. Judy Nguyen check how your child's jaw and teeth are developing and tell you whether to treat now, monitor, or wait.
Our early interceptive treatment page explains Phase 1 in more detail.
When to Bring Your Child In
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic checkup no later than age 7. At that age most kids have a mix of baby and permanent teeth, which shows how the bite is forming. You can book directly with us. No dentist referral is needed.
Problems Early Treatment Can Address
- Crossbites, where upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth
- Underbites that are easier to guide during growth
- Severe crowding that needs space created early
- A narrow upper jaw, often treated with a palate expander
- Front teeth that stick out and are at higher risk of injury
Many children do not need Phase 1. If waiting is the better plan, we say so and set up periodic checks.
What Phase 1 Looks Like
Phase 1 at Bloom usually lasts 6 to 18 months, followed by a rest period while the remaining permanent teeth come in. Appliances depend on the problem and can include an expander, partial braces, or a removable device. Phase 1 is $2,500 to $3,500, and many insurance plans include Phase 1 benefits.
